Seasonal Pruning
Trim away the mysteries of pruning with these practical workshops focusing on the current season.
Gardening from Scratch – Pruning for Beginners
This practical workshop is designed to introduce why, when and how we prune. Many people find the idea of pruning quite daunting as well as frustrating, particularly when a shrub they expected to flower does not put on the show they were hoping for.
In this workshop, you will learn how to prune to produce healthy, vigorous plants, that have good structure or shape whilst maintaining good production of flowers and fruit.
We will identify the best tools for the job and how to maintain them as well as demonstrate the safe use of these tools for particular tasks.
The workshop will be very hands-on, and we will be outside, in the garden, practising techniques on Shrubs, climbers and trees.
Fruit and Wisteria Pruning
In this more advanced workshops in August and January workshops we will be discussing how to summer and winter prune and train Wisteria in order to maximise flower production whilst at the same time keeping it maintaining its size.
We will also look at the pruning and training of a variety of forms of apple and pear trees including step-overs, espaliers, fans and cordons as well as standard trees. Proper pruning of fruit trees will not only increase production of good quality fruit but will also ensure they maintain an attractive shape.
This is a more advanced workshop and a knowledge of basic pruning would be helpful.
Rose Pruning
In this workshop we will dispel some of the myths behind rose pruning and give you a good understanding of how to prune the different types including climbing, rambling, modern shrub, old roses and floribunda roses.
